About 11:41pm on Sunday, January 10, 2021, officers assigned to District B-3 (Mattapan) responded to a radio for a Person with a Gun at 51 W. Tremlett Street, Dorchester. Upon arrival, officers spoke with a victim who stated that the suspect, later identified as Johnie McCullum aka Ismail Abdurrashid-McCullum, 52 years old from Boston, was in possession of a firearm. The victim stated he and the suspect got into an argument, and the suspect reached to his waistband while telling the victim that he should kill him.

As the officers were speaking with the parties on scene, they observed the suspect walking towards them making incoherent statements. Officers then observed the suspect holding what appeared to be a firearm in his right hand and waving it over his head. The officers gave the suspect verbal commands to show his hands, at which time they observed him hold the firearm down by his right hip. The officers ordered the suspect to show his hands, at which time the suspect dropped the firearm on the ground. During the arrest, the suspect was continuously yelling at the officers to shoot him, causing residents to exit their home to see what was happening.

The recovered  firearm was a Ruger 40 P91DC,  loaded with (1) round in the chamber, and (9) rounds in the magazine.

McCullum was uncooperative during transport back to the District and during the entire booking process, continuing to tell officers to shoot him.

Johnie McCullum aka Ismail Abdurrashid-McCullum was arrested and charged with Unlawful Possession of a Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Firearm, Unlawful Possession of a Large Capacity Feeding Device, Unlawful Possession of Ammunition, Threats to Commit Crime, and Breach of the Peace.

McCullum is expected to be arraigned in Dorchester District Court.

While the officers were on scene speaking with the victim, he disclosed that his License to Carry a firearm had expired and there was a shotgun on the third floor. Officers recovered a Mossberg 12-gauge shotgun, a locked white safe, various magazines, and a green plastic ammo can which contained multiple rounds of ammunition in numerous calibers.
